What is the Shaolin Kung Fu Association?

The Shaolin Kung Fu Association is a charitable incorporated society that supports the learning, practicing and sharing of Shaolin Kung Fu and traditional Chinese Martial Arts. Our members have access to our training centres throughout New Zealand and across the globe. The Association is operated by the Instructors of our training centres, as well as our Executive Board who provide nation-wide support.

We offer authentic Shaolin Kung Fu training adapted for the modern lifestyle. The Art we teach is Shaolin Gaocan Mun Nam Pai Chuan Kung Fu, a traditional Chinese martial art rooted in Chinese culture. Like any other traditional martial art, we teach techniques suited for combat and self-defence while also placing emphasis on respect and tradition.

This means that our students don’t just improve their fitness and physical condition, but also their mental strength and discipline. There are many opportunities for a student to improve by learning, practicing and sharing Shaolin Kung Fu.

Who runs the Shaolin Kung Fu Association?

Our centres are run with community spirit where students of all abilities practice together. Our Instructors go through a certification process so that they are confident that they have the skills and tools needed to provide a great Shaolin experience. Our success depends on the passionate people that love the art and want to see students succeed. The combination of passion, martial arts proficiency, and professional skills of instructors and custodians ensures that the Shaolin Kung Fu Association is continuously supporting and improving the Art and its students.

Nation-wide support of the Association is vested in our elected Executive Board alongside our administration team. Their responsibility is to ensure the sustainability of the art in New Zealand by supporting its instructors and students.

How is the Shaolin Kung Fu Association structured?

Structured as an incorporated society with charitable status, we have increased responsibilities to maintain transparent reporting. Every student is a member and has input into how we are governed. Being a charity provides us with a unique ability to give access to many more New Zealanders to the learning and practice of Shaolin Kung Fu.

Our Executive Board works with other stakeholders to improve our offering and to engage with the wider community. We are a member of the New Zealand Kung Fu Wushu Federation and work with our partners to engage with other martial arts schools. Read more about the activities of our Executive Board.
